Garden Club

Chetnole & Leigh Garden Club

A hearty welcome to Leigh and the Wriggle Valley on behalf of your local garden club; we are certain you will enjoy living here and will find the natives both friendly and welcoming!

Founded in 1985, the Club’s membership enjoys an active programme of talks, social events and visits to noteworthy gardens throughout the year. The key objectives include enjoyment and learning about how best to develop our gardens and their produce. The membership of c. 100 has the opportunity to learn from monthly talks given by experts in Chetnole Village Hall – mainly on gardening topics but also on wildlife and “green” issues. These are normally held on the first Monday of the month. There are also daytrips to visit special gardens, and an evening garden visit followed by a club members’ supper; also a Christmas Party with entertainment. The cost of these events is very modest. In summer, in alternate years, some club members in Chetnole (one year) & Leigh (the next year) open their gardens for a charity day which is enormous fun.

Members are also given the opportunity to participate in a most enjoyable annual 2night/3 day trip to various parts of the UK visiting significant gardens in the area. So far The Cotswolds and Hereford/Worcester (including The Malvern Show) have been on offer and proved hugely successful.

Apart from owning several pieces of equipment available for members’ use either free or at a nominal contribution, The Club also arranges significant discounts on products from Castle Gardens where a special evening visit takes place, usually in February.

In essence, the Chetnole & Leigh Garden Club provides newcomers to the area with an opportunity to meet, chat, exchange views and gardening tips and generally enjoy social contact with other likeminded folks.

Meetings are held at Chetnole Village Hall at 7.30 p.m.
on the first Monday of the month, except where stated.
