Leigh WI Monthly Meeting

No evening meeting on the 27th June
Instead our outing to Laycock Village and Abbey

Passing Time - Leigh Church Open Weekend
Saturday 1st July 2017 to Sunday 2nd July 2017
St Andrew's Church - From 10.00am Saturday, 9.00am Sunday
Cost: Donations please

Lots to do and see in the church and churchyard.

Saturday:
All day from 10.00am: Professor Ovenden's Curiosities of Yesteryear, Leigh Candle Auction, Historic farming and gardening equipment, Local produce, Toys, Games and models.

11.00am: Children's Games and activities start. Medical memories – reminiscences of a retired GP and various former nurses.

12.30pm: Ploughman's lunches.

1.30pm: Try your hand at ringing the church chimes.

3.30pm: Clipping the Church – we need at least 100 people to join hands round the outside of the church.

3.45pm: Cream teas, tea and cake in the churchyard.

Sunday:
9.00 to 11.00am: Breakfast in the churchyard.

11.30am to 3.30pm: Various musical performances in the church including Tony Durkin and friends, singing easy-ish rounds with Eddie Upton and, at 2.30 pm, Stanchester Quire.

6.00pm: Special Thomas Hardy Evensong featuring costumed singers and musicians with music from Hardy's period, followed by drinks and nibbles in the churchyard.

Garden Club - Annual Garden Party

Yetminster Fair
Saturday 8th July 2017
High Street and Environs, Yetminster - Parade at 1.00pm - Fair finishes at 4.30pm
Cost: Free - donations welcomed!

The annual Fair is back after a successful rebirth in 2016 - a myriad of stalls and entertainment suitable for all the family - don't miss the flower display and the Yetminster Irish Dancers in the Church and the Scouts cream teas are to die for. The White Hart is open all day for refreshments.

Free parking off the Ryme Road (signposted) with limited mobility parking in the Health Centre car park in Church Street.

Leigh Food Fair and Vintage/Classic Car/Bike Display
Saturday 29th July 2017
Leigh Village Hall - 10.00am to 4.00pm
Cost: £2.00 adults, under 15s free

Taste and buy some of the best food and drink on offer from local producers. The Stallholders will include: Alweston Jam and Chutney Empire, Bay Tree Company, Chocolate Arthouse,Company, Dorset Blue Viney, Dorset Fishcakes, Dorset Pie Company,Fussels Fine Foods, James's Cheeses, James's Forager Spirit, Lavender Blue Food Co. Liberty Cakes, Little Groves Nursery, Meat Free Martha, Olive's Kitchen, Olives'n'Stuff, Oxfords Bakery, Reads Coffee Roasters, Percy’s Bakery, Primrose's Kitchen, Simply Sprinkle, Somerset Cider Brandy Co., Tim Hurren Icecream Tricycle, White Post Gate Honey, Wriggle Valley Beer, Wraxall Wines, Wyld Meadow Farm, and Yarty Cordials.

Barbecued hamburgers and sausages, refreshments, ice cream, beer and cider will be here! Entertainment includes children’s activities.

A variety of interesting Veteran/Classic cars and motorbikes will also be on display. Car owners are not charged to enter the Show, AND get 2 tickets per car to allow them free access in to the Food Fair!!

This is proving to be a very successful annual show, AND will, of course, be in our amazing Village Hall. Please spread the word to your friends and relations – it really is a day NOT to be missed.

Proceeds go to Leigh Village Hall, The Hub, Yeovil, St Andrew’s Church, Leigh and other charities.
It will be opened by Sue and Graham Fudge, formerly of Thomas J Fudge's

Chetnole Fete and Flower Show
Saturday 5th August 2017
Field next to Chetnole Village Hall - 2.00pm to 4.30pm
Cost: £1.00 adults, children free

Traditional Flower Show in the marquee, Fun Dog Show, children's races and games, Children's Fancy dress competition at 2:30, stalls: cakes, books, plants. Sideshows such as Human Fruit Machine, White Elephant, Tombola. Live music. Teas, Pimm's stall, 'mocktails'. Classic cars. And much more. All profits go to local charities and organisations.

Leigh Art Show
Friday 20th October 2017 to Sunday 22nd October 2017
Leigh Village Hall - Preview 6-8pm Friday, 10am-5pm Saturday and Sunday.
Cost: £5.00 for preview on Friday 6-8pm, free other days.

Leigh Art Show is a showcase for local talent for both professional and amatuer artists. We encourage artists in the fields of painting, ceramics, printing, drawing and sculpture to exhibit and to sell their works in Leigh Village Hall. Lunches and teas will be provided.

There will be an opportunity to have your portrait done in pastels by well-known portrait artist James Meiklejohn. A workshop for children on Sunday from 10.00am to 12.00noon will be an exciting opportunity for children to create there own multimedia images. Please book these in advance - contact below.

Poppy Appeal Talk - The RAF Raid on Karlsruhe
Friday 10th November 2017
Leigh Village Hall - Doors open 7.00pm, talk commences 7.30pm
Cost: £7.50 adults, under 16s free

Complementary wine and canapes at 7.00pm. Tickets available from Leigh Village Stores, or Alan Bennett (Stone House, Totnell Hill, Leigh), or on the door.
