Leigh has a flourishing WI which has been in existence for over 90 years and currently has a membership of around 30. The majority of members live in Leigh but a number come from the surrounding villages including Yetminster, Chetnole, Hilfield and Hermitage. We are a friendly group and are always very happy to welcome new members.
Our meetings take place on the last Tuesday of every month in Leigh Village Hall. From October to February meetings are held in the afternoon at 2.30pm. During the summer months commencing March they begin at 7.30pm which allows time for those members who work to be able to attend. We also hold an annual outing when non-members are invited, craft activity mornings, a monthly lunch club and we organise a jumble sale every spring. On top of this there are many varied outings and events available to members organised by the Dorset Federation of Women’s Institutes.
Our members are also much involved in village life in general helping out with the Leigh Flower Show and the Open Gardens event. Members are also part of the team that runs the monthly senior citizens’ luncheon club.
Our programme of meetings and events appears in the What’s On calendar each month.
Joining the WI gives you access to all our talks, demonstrations and social events plus a monthly edition of the Dorset WI News and WI Life magazine.
Most of our meetings and talks are open to non-members for just £3.00 per person per visit.
